You're SO Urban

A couple of nights ago I went to Dumbo for a book signing event for Peter Mendelsund's "Cover", a gorgeous collection of his brilliant book cover designs. Cover is  a great addition to my growing design books library, especially since it's autographed.

Peter is obviously incredibly talented but I learned he is also witty and charming. It's always heartening to see that people can be talented and successful without being insufferable assholes.

Some of the points Peter made about his design decisionmaking process were particularly relevant to my  redesign of Me and Bear, Bear and Me andI told him so. He replied that he's never done a cover for a children's book but I unfortunately didn't hear the reason why because it was pretty loud in there and besides I'm growing dramatically more deaf with each passing day. So I just smiled because I'm sure whatever he said was as witty and charming as his Q&A.

It was one of those nights that exemplifies why I choose to live here, at the center of the universe: because it's a special event but at the same time an everyday occurrence. At least it can be if you make the effort. I need to make more of an effort.
