simple pleasures

Renovating my kitchen made me really grapple with my buyers remorse. In some categories, like photography, I am absolutely comfortable spending an exorbitant amount of money and not even blinking. But when it comes to daily utilities, I hesitate or even freeze.

For years I used unsharpened kitchen knives because “175 for a new set of knives? I think the fuck NOT!” And every time I needed to slice a tomato or onion, I would tread the line between clean slices and amputation.

But with this renovation, I finally bit the bullet and bought a new knife set. I had forgotten what it was supposed to feel like to make thin slices with no fear of mutilation. This is a basic requirement of any adult person’s kitchen, as is a cutting board you don’t have to replace every couple of months.

SMH at how long it took me to take care of my needs in the simplest of ways.
