what i read in november
The Between - The story is kind of meh but I do want to know what happens. The writing is not as good as I remember from My Soul To Keep.
Mr. Mercedes - Absolute trash. Corny, every TV detective trope ever tried, a killer straight out of central casting. The slave/homey dialect he created for the lone Black character — who’s also a pre-Ivy straight A uppermiddle class kid — is absolutely despicable. I can’t believe the amount of acclaim I saw for this garbage.
The Memory Police - Great concept but the execution is quite the snoozefest. The last chapter was beautifully written.
Dr. No - This had me laughing out loud. Gave it 5 stars on Goodreads. I’m really digging getting into Everett.
Killers of the Flower Moon - Really interesting dive into history I didn’t know. The 3rd section was a big disconnect from the in-the-moment action of the 2nd, but the book was still well done overall.
Bel Canto - Hated it. So many racial tropes; so tone deaf, on so many levels. Again, I can’t believe the acclaim.
Ready for Revolution - Still good but still slow going.
