what I’m reading
Recommended to me by a Cuban guy named Mandy. I LOVED this book. It scores a solid A, demoted from an A+ for a big chunk of the last 80 pages or so which was a snooze. But overall the writing was very clever, and who knew it would be historical fiction! A pox on anyone who says "It's like Forrest Gump". Though I've actually never seen the film, I know enough about it to say that it ain't. The only thing they have in is a main character who finds himself interacting with some incredible historical figures in incredible ways. How that story is told and the main characters' stories are lightyears apart.
I was very disappointed with the reviewers on Goodreads who thought it sucked - half of them don't understand what a farce is, and the other half don't know any history earlier than 1995. Stick to The Hunger Games, lightweights.
